Restoring America
Since 2003, Paul Davis has participated in Restoring America because we believe our team can make a difference in the quality of people’s lives by making much needed property repairs. Restoring America provides assistance for those in need through a property improvement initiative designed to help those who cannot afford or are physically unable to remodel or restore their homes. In recent times, the program has expanded to non-profit organizations such as housing programs and schools. Once a deserving recipient is identified, we coordinate needed construction services with our valued network of vendors and trades people. Together, our remodeling talents and combined resources make a significant and lasting impact to families and non-profit organizations. The Paul Davis Charitable Fund is a 501(c)(3) charity that supports the Restoring America initiative and many other community engagement initiatives making a powerful impact in Wisconsin communities.
Dennis & Jeanne’s Restoring America Story
Oshkosh, WI Home
This Restoring America Project benefited an individual touched with blood cancer, and our 2012 annual charity Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Dennis, a self proclaimed entrepreneur, who once owned a successful construction before he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
The subsequent battle for his life drained many family resources. Dennis, his wife Jeanne and her 90-something mother, which they care for, live in a 140 year old house in Oshkosh, WI. The home is in dire need of a fully functioning kitchen and other home improvements. For some time, the stove has not operated forcing the owners to prepare many of their meals outside on the grill. Dennis has a passion for cooking that is halted by the current 1960’s kitchen in disrepair. New cabinets, countertops, plumbing supplies and fixtures, appliances, flooring and much more will transform this kitchen to an updated and functional space with appeal. The scope of the project flows into the living room where water damaged floors and dated walls will receive a much needed attention. Additionally, College Pro Painters transformed the exterior of the home with new paint.
Dan & Amy’s Restoring America Story
Racine, WI Home
In 2009 Dan suffered a spinal injury from a bicycle accident, resulting in quadriplegia, a significant loss of feeling in his arms and legs. This Restoring America project provided the Dan and his wife Amy, as well as their family, an updated kitchen that is both stylish and easier to navigate. The project features a sustainability theme with recycled cabinetry in the new kitchen, reuse of stone countertops and a donation of existing cabinets to Habitat Restore in Racine.
YWCA Housing Restoring America Story
Milwaukee, WI Apartment
The YWCA Transitional Housing program provides temporary housing and supportive services to women and their children experiencing homelessness throughout Milwaukee County.
This annual Restoring America identified significant improvements needed for a self-sustaining apartment home serving as a transitional housing unit.The scope of the project included gutting the space and installing updated electrical and plumbing along with a new, fully-equipped kitchen and bathroom, flooring and lighting. Furthermore, the entire unit was painted and redecorated. Overall, the safety and livability of the entire space was significantly improved. “The new space is bright and cheery and the remodeled unit will provide a happy place for our residents and children.” – Marva Johnson, YWCA Transitional Housing Program Manager.
